If there is a need to adjust the scope of monitoring for your wordmark watch it is possible to use one of the two available options at the Watch Manage page:

- Exception rules (also available through Bulk import)

- Boolean input (only set up manually)

TABLE OF CONTENTS

Exception rules

Exception rules allow adding restrictions to watched name parameter, applying the keywords that must be included or excluded, as well as eliminating irrelevant owners or representatives.

In order to change the parameter, please click on "none selected" wording within the Exception rules cell for necessary watch:

You will then see the menu with several options:

1. Only include results with the following spellings

This option is wildcard-sensitive, so if you just type in the keywords, they are treated as standalone words

But if wildcards are used at both sides, it means that longer phrases/compounds/words with additional characters can be captured as well.

Please note to also split the keywords with commas.

Please keep in mind that potential results initially depend on the algorithm similarity (should be similar enough according to the algo), and then exception rules are treated as an additional filter.

This way, while monitoring FANTA, you can restrict your results in this field the following way:

*FANTA*, *PHANTA*

This would mean that terms including these two spellings can be covered in your watch results. Any other results not containing these spellings will be eliminated from the report and they cannot be pulled back for past reports (unlike when you add and remove the filters).

but while monitoring FANTA, if your ''only include" keyword is *ZERO*, you will likely only receive FANTA ZERO results, while the standalone FANTA will no longer be returned (word ZERO must be present as well)

2. Exclude results containing

Here you can insert the keyword that instruct the result to be skipped

For example, while watching JOULE you prefer to not receive JOULIE results. This keyword can be typed into the cell without any wildcard symbols

3.  Only include results that together with the watched mark also contains

This option is only used in combination with 'include results containing", for creating a certain alternative

For instance, you are monitoring ECOLINE, and potential results must contain both elements: ECO and LINE

This restriction can be achieved with the following setup (note that we are using several phonetic variations of the keywords for illustration purposes, you might want to add fewer or more):

This way, some of the potential results could be ECOLINE, EKOLINE, ECOLAIN, ECKOLINNE, etc.

4. Match results with Owner name NOT containing the exact phrase

This is the option for excluding Owners. Please note that it looks up the exact matches only, so it is important to list all the possible variations/alternative names:

An example of the input here could be:

Siemens AG; Siemens ltd

5. Exclude results where watched mark and result mark have identical owner name

This option would skip the results comparing Client/Label information and the Owner name in the Trademark record

6. Match results with Representative name NOT containing the exact phrase

For excluding TM results based on certain Legal representatives

Watch boolean input

Boolean watch option can be enabled in your account by clicking on Custom columns and ticking the respective checkbox

Boolean input functionality allows building the Boolean query that will be either treated as the only TM name parameter, or it can be combined with the algorithm

This way, except for being more flexible, the main difference between Exception rules and Boolean input is that Boolean option can be used not only for restricting for the potential trademark results, but also for expanding the algorithm similarity, allowing to include more variations of the term into the watch.

Watch query building functionality works analogically to ProSearch boolean input.

Cick on "None selected" wording within the Boolean input cell, and you will see the full menu there:

This way, you can select one of the two modes: Algo+Boolean, or only Algo

And using the Query builder, define the TM name parameters to use.

There are the following options available:

- name (using the options 'contains', equals', 'starts/ends with' and similar, you can define the trademark name spelling, wildcards can also be applied)

- phonetic name (to look up phonetically similar marks)

- presets (to define the variations/truncations/change level that is applied to the trademark - you can check more details on this option in the article dedicated to ProSearch)

- word count (to restrict the result term length)

By clicking the green plus button, you can keep adding the parameters, assigning the AND/OR/NOT correlation between them.

When ready, click on Add query to save it:

You can also see the preview of results by clicking on the small triangle option to the left of the query:

Please note that this preview is based on the already existing trademarks in our database and doesn't mean that the following week you'd receive those results in your report.

You can also combine several queries for one watch. Just click on Add query button when one configuration is ready, then create another query, add it, and select both for your setup:

When finalized, please save the configuration. You will see the following notification on the top of your screen:

And for a little while, the boolean configuration will look the following way:

Please note that if it is time-sensitive, you can still activate your watch without waiting for this final step - if not yet approved by the time the new watch report is produced, you will at least receive the algo-driven results.

Please note that Support team's validation is about the reasonable watch setup principle: one brand = one watch, so the team will check that the boolean configuration is aimed at retrieving one unique brand at a time. Not being search experts, they are not checking if the requested query is the most optimal for your watched name (for that purpose, you can use the preview option).

As soon as the setup is finalized by Markify support, the scope of monitoring will be adjusted accordingly, and the icon will look the following way:
